THE LOGLINE
A lonely therapist and a charismatic Australian rugby heir with an intensely personal problem strike an unconventional deal to help fix each other’s lives – only to discover that the arrangement they thought would solve everything may be the beginning of a friendship neither of them saw coming.
THE STORY
It’s amazing how much easier it is to fix someone else’s problems.
SHRINKAGE is a sharp, irreverent comedy about two very different men who discover that confronting your own problems is a lot harder than diagnosing someone else’s.
A lonely therapist searching for connection crosses paths with a charismatic Australian rugby heir struggling with a deeply personal problem. When the two enter into an unconventional arrangement designed to help them both get their lives back on track, neither expects the deal to become anything more than mutually beneficial.
But life rarely follows the terms of an agreement.
What begins as an unusual arrangement gradually evolves into an unlikely friendship filled with awkward situation, romantic complications, bruised egos, questionable decisions, and brutally funny moments of self-discovery.
As their carefully constructed solutions begin to unravel, both men are forced to confort the insecurities they’ve been avoiding – and discover that the person most capable of changing your life isn’t always the person you expect.
Beneath its raunchy humor and uncomfortable situations, Shrinkage is ultimately a story about vulnerability, intimacy, friendship, and the unexpected people who challenge us to become more honest versions of ourselves.
WHY THIS STORY SHOULD EXIST
I’m interested in the contradictions that make people funny, complicated, and human.
SHRINKAGE explores the strange irony of being able to recognize someone else’s problems while remaining remarkably skilled at avoiding your own. At its heart are two men who couldn’t seem more different, yet each possesses something the other desperately needs.
The comedy comes from putting these two unlikely characters in situations where their carefully constructed defenses begin to crack. But underneath the humor is a more personal question…
What happens when the person who sees through you isn’t a therapist, but a friend?
Ultimately, SHRINKAGE is about the uncomfortable – and often hilarious – process of letting someone else into your life, lowering your defenses, and discovering that vulnerability may be the first step toward becoming who you were supposed to be.
